University of Maine Faculty Member, Colleague Publish Guide to College Football: Book Endorsed by Kirk Ferentz, University of Iowa Head Football Coach
Just in time for the first kick-off, there’s a new book for women who are fans of the gridiron, but want to learn more.
“Tackling Football: A Woman’s Guide to Understanding the College Game” is a quick and easy guide to this country’s most popular college sport. It takes its readers through most of the basics, including how the game is played, the various positions on the field, as well as some of the offensive and defensive strategies involved. Packed with helpful illustrations, it also offers an overview of the social aspects of the game from tailgating to the touchdown celebrations.
Although women are the primary audience, “Tackling Football” can be used by anyone who wants a guide to the basics of college football.
Few sporting events compare with the excitement of a college football game and the authors wanted to share their years of experience with fans. Former football coach, J. Michael Hodgson, offers years of technical expertise from the field, and UMaine professor, Sandra Caron, offers insights into questions she had as a veteran of numerous stadium games through the decades.
“The book was a tremendous addition to our Women’s Clinic at Princeton this spring. . . . Sandra Caron and Mike Hodgson have done an exceptional job taking a game that can be considered complicated and breaking it down in a way that is easy to follow.” -Bob Surace, Head Football Coach, Princeton University
“Tackling Football is outstanding and VERY well received in our home – my wife Mary loved it!” -Kirk Ferentz, Head Football Coach, University of Iowa
Illustrated by Val Ireland, “Tackling Football” is offered in paperback, kindle, and a specialty version with laminated binding for use in inclement weather. Reasonably priced, they make a perfect gift for donors, alumni, or any fans who’ll be attending the Big Game during homecoming week. Available through www.amazon.com.
